ARTIST STATEMENT

Molten glass sitting in a crucible is nearly invisible. The beauty lies within waiting to be revealed. Excitement comes from taking something that is barley visible, add or subtract mass, apply liberal amounts of spirit, and spin it in a semi liquid state on the end of a pipe. Struggling with and against gravity simultaneously is as exciting as anything you might ever witness. As the glass is shaped and cools, the passion becomes suspended in time, encased in an invisible cocoon.

More than technique, it is design and color that makes a Holberg jump into the heart of the viewer.

There is no formula to follow. Patience, perseverance and burning desire are the path to success when blowing glass. I connect with my work, shaping it and blowing life into each design. There is a great sense of achievement in taking a material that has no shape or color and working it into a physical expression of what I feel.

Part of my exploration of each project is the writing of poetry, exploring different aspects of my idea. After exploring the many layers of one theme I then design the work as to what I experience inside about the theme. Emotions, experiences and desires all have colors that represent them in the physical world. The world has layer after layer of colors. We are colored by our experiences.

It is the need to make art that communicates with others that is my inspiration. My voice comes through for all who are willing to listen with their eyes."
